Mapping Web Sites With Mapuccino
posted by Editor on Thursday August 29, @08:05PM
Web Sensing Mapuccino is an application that allows mapping, filtering, and searching of Web sites by dynamically constructing visual maps of them. The maps can be viewed using any Java-enabled browser, and they can be stored for quick reference or shared with other users. Mapuccino starts from any Web page and generates a visual map that shows the structure of the Web neighborhood (see screenshot). Maps can be personalized by entering text specifying a particular topic. It then searches deeper in directions where relevant information is found according to the topic, and highlights relevant pages in blue (the more relevant, the darker the blue). Personalized maps thus show relevant information in context. The maps can be viewed in several ways: as a tree (horizontal or vertical), circle, or fisheye. Mapuccino can be downloaded from IBM's AlphaWorks site, and is supported on Windows 95 and NT.
