This article in ComputerWorld reports that the global market for handheld computers declined by 0.2% in the third quarter of this year, to 2.52 million units.
Palm continues to lead with 34.2% of the market, shipping 861,500 units. HP follows, with 23.1% market share and shipping 581,414 units. Sony came in third, with 10.1% of the market and 255,360 units shipped. The weakness may be a result of the fact that 70% of PDAs are bought by consumers rather than companies, and the increasing availability of calendar and address book functions in mobile phones.
