The Flamenco search interface helps users move through large information spaces by exposing category metadata to guide them through possible choices, and to organize the results of keyword searches. It uses hierarchical faceted metadata to allow users to both refine and expand the current query, while maintaining a consistent representation of the collection's structure. The site includes two examples of the technique: one to browse fine arts images from the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, and one to browse architectural images from the UC Berkeley Architecture Visual Resources Library. The technique is detailed in this paper (PDF).
